Lela Hedge

Lela Mae (Eggers) Hedge, age 91, left us to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Hickory Creek at Sunset in Greencastle, Indiana.  Lela was born on October 16, 1927, in the Groveland area of Putnam County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William Franklin and Lela Alice (Allgood) Eggers. A 1945 graduate of Bainbridge High School, she married Howard Raymond Hedge on September 23, 1945.

Surviving are her children: Marcia [Charles] Wells and Robert [Sherry] Hedge, both of Greencastle, Indiana, six grandchildren (Jeff and Chris [Lynn] Wells, Becky [Ed] Nightingale, Bill [Katy] Hedge, Dara McMains, Katie [Andrew] Bonnoront; and eight great grandchildren (ReBecka and MyLindaWells, Ellie and Samantha Nightingale, Gracie and Abby Hedge, Jude and Julia Holmes).

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters (Veda, Irene, Pansy, Elsie) and two brothers (Ora and Bill).

Lela was active in the Roachdale Opti-Mrs. and the Roachdale Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.

Services will be held at the Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, 102 East Washington Street in Roachdale at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Viewing is from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Reverend Christopher Will will be officiating. Contributions can be made in Lela’s memory to the Roachdale Fire Department, 202 North Indiana Street, Roachdale, Indiana 46172.

    I am greatly saddened by the loss of Lela. I didn’t know her long but I enjoyed caring for her and talking to her while she was with us. I hope the family finds peace. I could tell she meant a lot to you all.
