Dorothea M. Nelson

Dorothea M. Nelson, 109, formerly of Ladoga, passed away on May 26, 2018 in Sanford, Florida. She was born on December 5, 1908 in Ladoga, IN to the late Arthur Monroe and Clara Mae (Morris) Densmore. On May 17, 1933 she married James Harrison (Peanut) Nelson. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1990.

Dorothea was a 1926 graduate from Ladoga High School. Upon graduation she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Ladoga Telephone, and several insurance agencies. She worked as a clerk for the Ladoga Post Office for the latter part of her career. Dorothea was a long time member of the Ladoga Christian Church where she was the pianist, she also played piano at the Ladoga Opera House for silent movies. She raised two children with her husband and loved spending time with her family. She was a former member of Eastern Star and volunteered at Bainbridge Elementary School helping children with reading.

She is survived by her children; James R (Glenda) Nelson, Bainbridge, and Elda Herbison, Sanford, FL, 2 granddaughters, Marcy (Joey) Morace, Sanford, FL, and Jayme (Ben) Merkling, Idaho Falls, ID, 3 great grandchildren, Taylor Morace, Zachary and Tyler Merkling, Several cousins and Nephews.

Dorothea was preceded in death by; parents, husband, and brother, Edwin Densmore, and son in law, Keith Herbison.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on June 2, 2018 at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street, Ladoga, IN, 47954 with Pastor Mark Wager officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladoga Christian Church, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home. You are invited to visit with the family on Saturday from 12:00 PM to time of the funeral.
